Hey, Shelby -- I'm 99% sure there's an African dance and sacred drumming group around here (I think they did something at Millsaps over the summer) but I can't remember the name or the details. You might contact Kuumba African Market across the street from the UU church; I don't have the number but I know folks there are very well connected in the dancing/drumming community, as they sell authentic drums.

I've been very interested in this possibility myself (I attended a VERY enjoyable African drumming workshop a couple of years ago) so I might do a little digging, and if I run across anything, I'll let you know.

I'm also a liberal writer, BTW, so I'm now required to Add Friend you. :o)

Hey Shelby...There was once an african dance group in development. I'm not sure if they are still practicing or not. Maybe you should start one. You should also check out the group Women of the arts on this site...there, you may come across some more people that can help you. Some members of The JAckson Arts Collective may also be able to provide info.
