Just Heather's Page

I really, really do not like Camile Paglia. (At least, I don't like what she publicizes.) She's so in love with her own opinion she doesn't leave any room for the possibility that she might be *gasp* wrong about, well...anything. She's very good pontificating. She's also very good at making up words to insult and disparage people with, but she's not very good at making arguments that include anything else. The overwhelming negativity of her vituperations towards the very people who opened up the job market so that my mother could get a job (and so that I can, and also so that Camile can) leaves such a level of distaste in my mouth it's difficult for me to hear any real intellectual content in her...(work? Is it really work if all you do is insult people from atop your all-knowing high horse?)

I am certainly no expert on women's studies, and the argument can definitely be made that my mother's generation required a different feminism than we need now, but there is still a need for feminism, and awareness of sexism's damaging effects on women and on society as a whole.
