Favorite Local Watering Hole:: Pi(e) Lounge, Schimmel's and Hal & Mal's, among many others

Favorite Band:: Love too much music to pick, but locally really dig Laurel Isbister, Teneia Sanders ... and Claire Holley's new CD. Billie Holliday is my soundtrack. So is Nina Simone.

Politics:: Libertarian Except When It Gets Silly, Anybody But Bush, Left-leaning

People don't know that I:: ... was a club deejay for a decade (the '80s) to support my writing habit. OK, some people do. I can't sing a note, but I can lip-synch just about any popular song from the last 50 years. I'm also deathly afraid of shopping carts behind me.

How Did 'the Lounge' Come About?

Someone asked me yesterday how the name "Lounge" came about for the JFP's social-networking efforts. It actually starts years before we returned to Mississippi. Back in the 1990s, while doing a technology column for a Colorado alternative paper, I adopted the name "Silicon Lounge" for the column. Hey all, the JFP needs help with two upcoming special issues—the Music Issue (June) and Jackpedia (August). We need nominations for upcoming (musical) artists to watch for the music issue. OK, the Jackson 11 will soon be revealed. Who are the young(ish) Jacksonians who are the ones to watch? The issue hits the streets and the Web next Wednesday (May 14).
