About Me:
Bruce Crain is the president of Crain Consulting, Inc., a financial consulting firm based in Jackson, Mississippi. He has over 25 years of experience in debt and equity finance, business development, management, government relations on the national and state levels, public relations and consensus building. Mr. Crain founded Crain Consulting in 2001 and has since assisted clients in 45 states and four foreign countries (Germany, Canada,Great Britain and New Zealand). Crain Consulting is recognized for its successes in securing innovating sources of financing that include one of the first DOE grants for cellulosic ethanol commercialization, the first USDA direct funding for a privately-owned waste to energy plant, and other sources including government guarantee loans, tax credits, grants and other state and local funding assistance for renewable energy and other commercial clients.

Prior to establishing Crain Consulting, Crain served as director of Fannie Mae’s Mississippi Partnership Office and was in charge of administering Fannie Mae’s five -year, $2.5 billion investment plan designed to increase affordable rental and homeownership opportunities for low-, moderate- and first-time homebuyers in Mississippi

Prior to returning from Washington to Mississippi to join Fannie Mae, he served as executive director of the AARC Corporation, a wholly owned corporation of the U.S. Department of Agriculture that served as a venture capital firm that invested in companies commercializing new industrial and consumer (nonfood, nonfeed) products made from agricultural and forestry materials. While at USDA also served on USDA’s Rural Development Business & Industry (B&I) Guarantee Loan Program National Office Executive Loan Committee.

Prior to coming to USDA, Crain was also vice president of legislative affairs for the Savings & Community Bankers of America (now known as America's Community Bankers) in Washington, D.C. He worked with Congress, banking regulators and industry leaders on housing and community development financial issues.

Before to going to Washington, Crain was director of industry relations for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas and served as president of the Mississippi League of Savings Institutions for four years. He began his professional career as director of governmental services for the Mississippi Economic Council, where he advocated state and local government reforms designed to provide greater efficiency and improved services to Mississippi residents.

Crain was recognized as a member of the Mississippi Business Journal's "Top 40 Under 40" for 1999, and received the Fannie Mae Southeastern Region Franchise Preservation Award for 1998. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Metro Jackson YMCA, New Stage Theatre, the University of Mississippi Alumni Association, and the Advisory Board of Habitat for Humanity-Metro Jackson. He is a Rotarian and a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, the New Uses Council, the Association for the Advancement of Industrial Crops, the Biomass Energy Research Association (BERA), the 25 X 25 Campaign, ACORE, the Mississippi Biomass Council, and the Southern Alliance for the Utilization of Biomass Resources (SAUBR).

Crain received his bachelor's degree in public administration from the University of Mississippi. He is a graduate of the Institute for Organization Management of the University of Notre Dame. He attended the University of Texas Graduate School of Savings Institutions Management and the Harvard Business School Agribusiness Seminar. He is married to the former Patricia Horne and they have two sons, Cameron, age 15, and Conor, age 12.
