LoungeList: Jackson's Local Social Network

What's the ONE FUN THING you wish was available in Jackson?

For me, the list is long.

I'll start with...

Clean, smokeless lounges and kareoke bars. I *don't* support ordinances that ban smoking in bars. I *do* support locales that offer a smoke-free setting.

I agree with the movie theater/independent film concept. It would be great to have a venue for lesser-known (might I venture to say better?) films.

Singles in Jackson need some social outlets that don't involve a) getting blitzed, b) embarassing ourselves, and c) spending loads of money. Perhaps a singles "club" that offers some of the above proposed suggestions? Dancing, film screenings, speed dating, etc.

Suffice it to say, Jackson needs a lot of work to beef up the singles scene. Are we outcasts because we're not paired off and producing offspring? Sometimes I feel that way. I'm excited to see what ideas the rest of you have!
3,000 square feet of raw space... Are you saying we should gut your house and turn it into a theater??? :) While I think there's a certain splendid beauty in FTW *not* having a permanent location, here's hoping we DO find the right space for your little black box.
It's funny, I've been thinking about doing an independent film "movie night" at my studio/gallery for months. I wasn't sure if I was the only one who would dig such a thing. Apparently, I'm not alone.

Let me get to work on the logistics and let me know your ideas and if you can actually get people to show up....
Whoa! Awesome! Tell me you're serious. Me and my people would become a PR Army for this. Seriously. Let's you and I work out the details and make it happen.
This is kind of what I'm thinking:

Double feature of sorts-Local filmmakers supplying short films, music videos, etc. for the first block, then a cool indie flick for the second feature.

BYOB and a lawn chair, blanket or whatever (concrete floors aren't too comfortable).

There isn't a ton of space, but I'd imagine we could get about 30-40 people in without it getting too ridiculous.

I have the projector, laptop, PA, etc. but the films would have to be on DVD (obviously). If anybody has an old-school popcorn popper- that would be cool as hell, too.

No smoking inside, but you can do whatever you want outside (except drink alcohol).

If anybody has any cool ideas, flicks they would want to see, is a filmmaker who wants to show, whatever... let me know....
I like what you're saying. Send me an email so we work out the boring business side of this gig...

P.S. As for cool flicks I want to see... I'd kill to watch some Darren Aronofsky flicks in a group setting. The Fountain esp.

Maybe we could show some of the local stuff from Crossroads? There was plenty this year I didn't get to see and I know I'm not the only one in that boat.
I know this does not really fit the "ONE FUN THING" category, but the one thing I've wished for the last few days...... Jackson needs some sort of (food) delivery service besides pizza. I've been sick as a dog and stranded, not wanting to put anyone out of his or her way. The only thing in my house to munch on is the lead-based paint flaking off the cabinets...
Come on Newks, work with me here!
Wouldn't that be awesome? To have a business that was awesome enough to bring you food besides boring pizza.. To have a friend who would do that would be a close second.. :)
I have several close by who would have, just didn't want to ask... Actually, I didn't want to talk on the phone period... throat was killing me.
Addendum: Jackson needs another delivery service which can be accessed online!! Ha
A very dark bar with a very sinister atmosphere that has a goth night. Something like The Dungeon in New Orleans.
You know the saying "If you want something done, do it yourself"? Well, I wanted a goth night so now there is one. It's tonight, July 24th at The Hill.
Deep Dish Chicago Style pizza. Please, for the love of God.
