This weekend on my runs, the humidity nearly killed me. I forget every year how much of an adjustment it is to run here in the summer. I'll be starting to make myself get up earlier and earlier the hotter it gets to try and beat the heat. Yuck. How are you dealing with it?

Running earlier is best fix to running in the heat, but the human body is capable of adjusting to the heat much more efficiently than they adjust to the cold. Although peak running performance is at 54 degrees and cooler according to a recent Runner's World article (August 08 issue), you can still run strong, smart and fast in the heat. Run early if possible, but if not, run late, and either way, hydrate often! That's the key. Sunscreen, water, and salt and electrolyte replacement drinks if you sweat heavily or are out for long runs (usually 10 miles or greater)
