Please excuse the poor grammar....I sucked a english and writing is not my strong point.
I getting a little urked by this but I should'nt cause its outta my hands hip hop in Jackson is on a identity crisis on one side you have rappers like lil C who is clearly inspired by lil boosie, and the other you have skipp coon who is inspired by the roots. This seems to be hurting the hip hop community as a whole. Its good and bad to be separated on one side is the music you hear on the radio alot of local artists are not being played because its not radio/club ready, the tempo is too slow, or whatever. All of the artists that were hip hop nominees for the BOJ(Best of Jackson) are not getting radio spins at our own stations Kaze did but it been a minute since he had anything new. The stuff that does make it to the stations is either vulgar, or horrible that all jackson hip hop is like that and its not with artist like skipp, trumpcard, 5th child, and seven:thirty. Its hard for those artists to do a decent gig at Jubilee Jam, Fondren after 5, or anything else of sort. If its not Seven Studioz or 121 its not gonna happen and its hurting the diversity of the city IMO. Even as djs its limited to where you can get a chance to spin something different in this city with out the club owner handing you a playlist. I used to dj in swell a couple of times for fondren after 5 but now Chane focuses his emphasis on rock and alt. music. So when I do go to fondren after 5 I see or hear no representation of hip-hop or soul, shoot I would'nt mind seeing some bellydancing ladies out side Aladdin's. Just spread the culture out a bit I think one time I was walking and there was a guy with a guitar in cups, a small band outside of Mishkas, and a guy with a guitar in studio chane. This was a night I asked chane could I dj and he said the music would clash? Hooray for change. I wanted to get that white building over there buy the cheveron but it seems NOBODY knows who the owner is! Turn it into a venue for artists of hip hop, poetry, neo-soul, alt., and rock. Fondren has a lot of retail and resturants, 2 venues one of them opens maybe 3 times a year.
Sorry i had to vent what are ya'lls thoughts?
